Cooking Dried Beans

You can cook your beans on the stove or in the crockpot.

Cook Beans on the Stove:
1. Rinse and sort beans.  Discard any odd looking beans and rocks.
2. Place beans in bowl covered in 3 inches of water above beans.
    Refrigerate overnight.

3. The next day drain and rinse beans again.
4. Place beans and *water in pot.  Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer 1 1/2 - 3 hours.
5. Use your beans immediately in any recipe that calls for beans
or put beans in ziploc bags and freeze for up to 6 months.

TIP: **Want to SAVE TIME? **
You can cook a lot of beans at one time and freeze a few cups in individual freezer bags.

*How much water do I add when I cook my beans?
2 cups of beans require 10 cups of water
You may need to add additional water during the cooking process.
Continually watch your beans.  If they don't have enough water they will burn!
Beans require a lot of water to cook.


Crockpot Beans:
1. Rinse and sort beans.  Discard any odd looking beans and rocks.

5. Place beans and water in crockpot.
6. Cook on high 8 hrs. or until tender.
7. Drain beans.
8. Eat within 1 week or freeze in ziploc bags up to 6 months.
